Tjarco ALTA is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, specialised in shoulder surgery, at the teaching Hospital Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem/Hoofddorp (the Netherlands). After becoming a Physical Education Teacher, he decided to start studying Medicine at the University in Amsterdam. He did his residency of Orthopedics in Amsterdam and Utrecht, where he got interested in shoulder surgery by his mentor Jaap WILLEMS. After he did a fellowship Shoulder and Elbow in Melbourne with Simon BELL and Warwick WRIGHT and a shoulder fellowship with Pascal BOILEAU in Nice. In 2014 he defended his PhD-thesis on Kinematical Analysis of Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty, for which he was awarded the Didier Patte prize of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC). Since 2015 he joined the orthopaedic group in Haarlem/Hoofddorp. He is a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES). Since 2020 he is the chair of the Health Care Delivery Committee and a member of the ExCom of SECEC.

Isabel Baert (PhD, MSc, PT) is a physiotherapist, working as a professor at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy of the University of Antwerp. She teaches various courses within the field of Musculoskeletal Clinical Assessment and Rehabilitation. Her research mainly focuses on gaining insight into the heterogeneous disease osteoarthritis and on evaluating and optimizing treatment. Her research can be divided into 3 pillars, namely research on factors influencing outcome after surgery in patients with osteoarthritis, research on the effect of conservative treatment in patients with osteoarthritis and research on musculoskeletal disorders that can play a role in the development or progression of osteoarthritis. I am based at the Annecy General Clinic, where I am a surgeon of the hand, the upper limb, the brachial plexus and the peripheral nerves in a structure that allows teaching and research: Alps Surgery Institute. I work 50/50 in shoulder and hand surgery.
My activity also includes reconstructive nerve microsurgery for paralysis of the limbs, and reconstructive vascular microsurgery of the musculoskeletal system with surgery of the brachial plexus and its sequelae, as well as surgery of composite osteochondral flaps for joint reconstruction, and skin flaps for covering the limbs. I work as part of a team in a structure that welcomes interns and fellows, both French and foreign. I was trained in Paris, as well as during various fellowships, one in Annecy for shoulder surgery with Dr Laurent LAFOSSE, and the other in Thailand with Dr Somsak LEECHAVENVONG for brachial plexus surgery.

As microsurgeon, he developed his experience on hand reconstruction, nerve surgery, brachial plexus surgery and free flap transfer. In 2019 Dr Valenti was the president of the French Academy of orthopaedic and traumatology (AOT) and past president of the French orthopaedic society of the shoulder and elbow (SOFEC).

Gert Van den Bogaert works as a shoulder and knee surgeon at “Hôpital la Citadelle Liege” , one of the biggest hospitals in the French speaking part of Belgium.
He graduated in 1999 as orthopedic surgeon after a training in 4 major regional hospitals in Belgium and visiting fellowships for shoulder surgery with Joe Debeer, Steve Burkhart, JP Warner and Christian Gerber.
After a 20 year participation in the orthopedic team ad AZ  Herentals, he joined the group “OrthoCita” with the engagement  to build a new strong orthopedic department in Liege.
Apart from general arthroscopic and open reconstructive shoulder surgery, he has a special interest and gathered some experience in muscle transfers in the shoulder and patient specific implants.

Dr. Antoon Van Raebroeckx studied medicine at the KU Leuven. In 2004 he obtained his license as orthopaedic surgeon. He specialised in shoulder surgery in Annecy with Dr Lafosse and Dr Toussaint from 2004 to 2005. He worked for 15 years as a shoulder specialist in Bonheiden and in 2011 he founded the “Shoulder training & research centre” in Mechelen for coaching of athletes. Since then, he has been a board member of the Belss, Belgian Elbow & Shoulder Society, of which he became president in 2018. He is an active member of the BVOT (Belgian Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology ), Secec/Essse (European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow) and Esska/Esa (European Shoulder Association). Since 2020, he is also member of the Educational Committee of Esa. He is closely involved in the training of national and international shoulder surgeons and continues to specialize through the Shoulder Center in the preventive and non-operative treatment of the “athlete’s” shoulder.
